Tech Breakdown: The E3D Titan Extruder
Designed by industry-leading engineers as an improvement to the status quo, the Titan is E3D’s cure for the common extruder.
With a 3:1 gear ratio, the Titan extruder from E3D is designed to be incredibly precise so your parts come out looking their best. It supports the printing of both 1.75mm and 3.00mm filaments including flexible filaments like TPE, TPU, and soft PLA. Its low weight and compact design give it an advantage over other clunkier extruders.

- Easy to build
- Constrained Path
A 3:1 Gear Ratio
The Titan extruder uses a gear ratio to make more precise movements. The team that designed it claim that this ratio combines the best of both speed and accuracy. Higher ratios run too fast to be precise, and lower ratios run too slow to be fast. 3:1 is where it’s at.
Injection-molded parts are sturdy, so the Titan is solid. Sturdy construction translates to less chance for wiggle room and the overall result is incredibly precise.
Gear teeth grip profile
Designed specifically for the cylindrical shape of filament, the teeth on the Titan are not like the teeth on other extruders. The curved shape of the teeth grabs filament at just the right angle which contributes to the high precision that is the common theme with the Titan.
Easy to build
The creators didn’t want a lot of fuss when it came to assembling their new creation, so they made it as easy to put together as they could make it. The Titan goes together quickly, and is easily disassembled.
Many extruders do not have a constrained path, meaning they cannot print flexible filaments. E3D incorporated this feature into the Titan’s design so it can print the full range of flexible filaments as well as the more common harder plastics.
For under $70 you can experience the awesome power of an upgraded extruder that provides precision for your prints. Check out the Titan Extruder here - also, you can get a mirrored version for dual extrusion 3D printing setup.
