3D Scanners

A 3D scanner produces digital 3D scans by using a combination of cameras and either lasers or structured light to capture the geometry of an object’s surface. These scans are then viewable as three-dimensional models that can be used for a variety of applications/industries such as industrial design, automotive, prosthetics, dentistry, archeology, and so much more.

In the context of additive manufacturing, 3D scanners are especially beneficial when requiring a 3D file to manufacture a duplicate of an existing object or a new part based on measurements of the existing object you 3D scanned. When precise measurements are essential, CAD/CAM skills hit a roadblock, or time is of the essence for a project (or all of the above), a 3D scanner is an invaluable tool to have on hand.
