Elegoo Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga High-Speed Large-Format 3D Printer Kit

The Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga is a large-format FDM printer with an 800 x 800 x 1000 mm build volume, 640 liters of print space, or roughly fifty times a standard desktop machine. Full-size helmets, furniture prototypes, automotive panels, and production jigs come off the plate in one piece instead of being sectioned and glued. A high-flow direct drive extruder runs up to 300 mm/s on Klipper firmware, and four independently heated PEI plates mean small jobs only heat the zone they occupy. Add up to four printheads to run four copies of the same part in a single cycle. Ships as a kit in two crates and assembles in about two hours with two people.

  • 800 x 800 x 1000 mm build volume prints meter-tall parts whole
  • Four independently heated PEI plates heat only where you print
  • Quad printhead option produces four identical parts per cycle
  • Klipper firmware with a high-flow direct drive hotend up to 300 °C

Stop Cutting Parts Into Pieces

Every large print on a normal printer starts with the same compromise: slice the model, print the sections, then spend hours gluing, pinning, and sanding the seams out. The Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga removes that step. At 800 x 800 x 1000 mm it offers 640 liters of build volume, roughly fifty times a standard 220 mm desktop machine, which means full-size helmets, furniture prototypes, automotive body panels, architectural models, and production jigs come off the plate in one piece.

It is built as a kit, and that is deliberate. Shipping a machine this size preassembled is impractical, so the Giga arrives in two crates and goes together in about two hours with a second set of hands. What you end up with is a rigid, flying-gantry Cartesian frame running Klipper firmware, a high-flow direct drive extruder, and four independently heated PEI build plates that only draw power under the area you are actually printing.

640 Liters, One Piece

The number that matters is not the footprint, it is what fits inside it. A 1 meter Z height clears full-scale props, mannequin torsos, and tall vases without sectioning. An 800 mm square bed takes a car bumper, a chair seat, or a dozen production parts laid out in a single batch. Design time drops because you stop engineering joints that exist only to work around a small printer.

  • 800 x 800 x 1000 mm build volume, about 50x a 220 mm desktop printer
  • 820 x 820 mm platform made of four 410 mm PEI-coated flexible steel plates
  • Prints parts up to 1 meter tall without sectioning
  • Flying gantry Cartesian frame, rigid enough to run at speed at this scale

A Heated Bed That Heats Only What It Needs

Bringing an 820 mm bed to temperature as one surface would be slow and expensive to run. The Giga splits it into four independently heated 410 mm zones, so a part that occupies one quadrant only heats that quadrant. Small jobs reach temperature faster and draw far less power than the bed size suggests, and large jobs still get the full surface when they need it.

  • Four independently heated 410 x 410 mm zones
  • Only the zones under the print draw power
  • PEI-coated flexible spring steel plates release parts by flexing
  • Inductive probe auto-leveling maps the surface before each job

High Flow, Because Big Parts Need Volume

At this scale, throughput is measured in how much plastic the hotend can melt, not just how fast the gantry moves. The Giga runs a dual-gear direct drive feeding a one-piece high-flow nozzle with a titanium alloy heat break and a 60 W ceramic heater. A 0.6 mm nozzle ships installed because larger parts want thicker extrusions, with 0.4, 0.8, and 1.0 mm available for finer detail or faster bulk.

  • Dual-gear direct drive with titanium alloy heat break
  • One-piece high-flow nozzle, 60 W ceramic heater, up to 300 °C
  • 0.6 mm nozzle standard; 0.4, 0.8, and 1.0 mm available
  • Up to 300 mm/s print speed and 5,000 mm/s² acceleration
  • Klipper firmware with input shaping, on a detachable touchscreen

The Quad Printhead: Four Copies, One Job

The Giga can be fitted with up to four printheads on a shared mounting plate. They move together and print the same file at the same time, which turns one machine into a small production cell: a batch of forty identical brackets becomes ten cycles instead of forty.

Worth being clear about what this is not, because it is the most common misunderstanding. The four heads are not independent, so this is not IDEX and not multicolor or multi-material printing. Every head prints the same part in the same material at the same time. If you need two colors in one model or two different parts in one run, this is not the feature for that. If you need volume of one part, it is exactly the feature for that.

  • Up to four printheads on a shared quad mounting plate
  • All heads print the same file simultaneously, one material
  • Build area per head is reduced accordingly, so it suits small to medium parts in batch
  • Included in the Enterprise and Deluxe bundles, or added later as an upgrade

Before You Buy: What This Machine Needs

The Giga is an industrial-scale tool and it has industrial-scale requirements. None of these are faults, but all of them are easier to solve before delivery than after.

Requirement What to plan for
Floor space The assembled machine is 1224 x 1164 x 1425 mm. Allow clearance on all sides for loading, maintenance, and removing tall parts from the top.
Doorways Assembled, it will not fit through a standard interior door. Build it in the room where it will live.
Delivery and handling 104 kg net, 145 kg gross, shipped in two crates. Plan for two people, a hand truck, and a clear path from the dock.
Assembly About two hours with two people. Tools are included. This is a kit by design, not a flat-pack shortcut.
Electrical A dedicated circuit is strongly recommended. The machine runs multiple power supplies and can trip a shared household breaker when the bed and hotend heat together.
Noise and heat Multiple cooling fans make this loud enough to be heard through a wall, and it adds noticeable heat to a closed room. A shop, garage, or dedicated print room suits it better than an office.
Leveling time First-time bed leveling across four spring-mounted plates takes patience. Budget an afternoon to get all four dialed in, then auto-leveling handles the day to day.

If that list reads as a lot, it is the honest picture of owning a 640 liter printer. Buyers who plan for it tend to be very happy with the machine. Buyers who do not tend to discover the doorway problem on delivery day.

Which Bundle Is Right for You?

Starter

The OrangeStorm Giga kit + two hours of expert setup assistance from MatterHackers.

Best for a first large-format machine, where help through assembly and first-layer tuning is worth more than extra hardware.

Enterprise

The kit plus three additional printhead kits, a quad printhead mounting plate, three large spool holder kits, and a 20-piece nozzle set.

Best for batch production, where running four copies at once is the reason you are buying it.

Deluxe

Everything in Enterprise + two hours of setup assistance.

Best for getting the full production configuration running correctly the first time.

The quad printhead hardware can also be added later, so a Starter bundle now does not close the door on batch printing down the road.

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the assembly really?
It is a genuine build, not a two-bolt unboxing, but it is well documented and takes around two hours with two people. The hardware is pre-drilled and the tools are included. The harder part is the first bed leveling pass, not the frame.

What materials can it run?
PLA, PETG, and TPU are the officially supported materials, all in 1.75 mm. The machine is open-frame, so higher-temperature materials like ABS and ASA are not supported out of the box because warping and fumes both need an enclosure. Some owners add third-party enclosures for those materials, which is outside Elegoo's warranty.

Why four build plates instead of one?
Independent heating. Four 410 mm zones let the machine heat only the area in use, which saves time and power on anything that does not fill the bed. The trade-off is a seam where the plates meet, which can leave a faint line on a print that spans two plates.

Does the quad printhead do multicolor?
No. The four heads move together and print the same file in the same material. It multiplies output of one part, it does not add colors or materials. For multicolor work you want a different machine.

Can I add the quad printhead later?
Yes. The printhead kits and the quad mounting plate are available separately, so a single-head Giga can be upgraded when batch volume justifies it.

What about power consumption?
Draw depends heavily on how much of the bed is heating. A small part on one zone is modest. A full-bed print with all four zones at temperature is substantial, and this is why a dedicated circuit matters. Plan the electrical before the machine arrives.

Will it fit through my door?
Assembled, almost certainly not. The crates will. Assemble the machine in its final location.

What slicer does it use?
Elegoo supplies a modified Cura profile for the Giga. The machine runs Klipper firmware, so other Klipper-aware workflows are also an option for experienced users.
