METHOD X CARBON FIBER EDITION IS BUILT TO LAST

A structurally optimized metal frame runs the full length of the body of the Method X Carbon Fiber Edition. This ultra-rigid metal frame was designed with the sole purpose of offsetting flexing, less flexing results in more consistent prints, more accurate parts, and fewer failures overall.

ACHIEVE UNCOMPROMISED LAYER ADHESION AND PART STRENGTH USING CARBON-FIBER INFUSED NYLON

Featuring a 110°C circulating heated chamber, Method X Carbon Fiber Edition allows users to control the temperature and quality of every layer. While heated build plates are effective at reducing first layer warping, the Method X Carbon Fiber Edition takes this approach one step further with full active heat immersion – providing even temperatures for the entire duration of the print job. This allows better layer adhesion for nylon, strengthening your printed parts even more. The increased temperature range also allows for even more advanced materials to be used for desktop additive manufacturing.

SMART FEATURES HELP TO REDUCE COST AND SAVE TIME ON SMALL PRODUCTION MANUFACTURING RUNS

The dual performance extruder system utilized by the Method X Carbon Fiber Edition was built from the ground up with the goal of accelerating print times and providing higher dimensional accuracy across every part. Built-in smart sensors for material management and print protection automatically detect and alert the user when materials are running low and allow for active jam detection during the entire print duration. Other features such as the Spring Steel build plate, which easily pops out to allow users to queue up their next print, and the 5” full-color capacitive touch screen offers users a highly intuitive and seamless user experience.

UNLOCK THIRD-PARTY ENGINEERING MATERIALS WITH MAKERBOT LABS

The MakerBot Labs Experimental Extruder for Method and Method X is compatible with a wide range of third-party materials. While technically any material can be used with the Labs Extruder, MakerBot has partnered with and certified filament from several leading material companies such as:

  • ABS CARBON FIBER from KIMYA. An ABS composite material with 30% chopped carbon fiber for improved stiffness and lower weight.
  • PETG ESD from JABIL. An easy processing, Electrostatic Dissipative (ESD) product for printing parts that meet sensitive electronics and could be damaged by electrostatic discharge.
  • DURABIO™ from Mitsubishi Chemical. Bio-based, BPA free resin. It combines PMMA’s transparency with a higher chemical and scratch resistance compared to polycarbonate (PC).
  • PC-FR from Polymaker PolyMax™. A flame retardant polycarbonate (PC) filament (UL94V-0/1.5 mm) displaying excellent toughness, strength and heat resistance.

The list of partners continues to expand so check back often for updates.

HOW TO INSTALL THE MAKERBOT LABS EXPERIMENTAL EXTRUDER:

1. Please make sure your METHOD is running the latest firmware.

2. Take out the extruder that you currently have in extruder slot 1 and insert the LABS
extruder instead.

3. Your METHOD will ask you to calibrate the extruders. Please make sure both extruder
nozzles are 100% clean to ensure accurate calibration.

A MODIFIED HOT END MAKES SWAPPING BETWEEN DIFFERENT METHOD EXTRUDERS INTUITIVE AND EASY

Equipped with a modified hot end, The LABS Experimental Extruder gives users advanced customization options for a wide range of new materials, including interchangeable nozzle assemblies and expanded print settings in MakerBot’s print preparation software, MakerBot Print. The Labs Extruder is capable of reaching up to 300°C, and includes sensors that track temperature, materials, and extruder jams.

By transforming METHOD into an open materials platform engineers can now utilize this incredibly powerful tool to actualize their ideas and designs.

PRINT MANUFACTURING ABS WITH METHOD X

Designed to challenge traditional manufacturing, Method X is capable of printing real, production-grade ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) in its 100°C heated chamber. Utilizing Stratasys SR-30 soluble supports, Method X delivers exceptional dimensional accuracy and precision when printing complex, durable parts. The real ABS used in MakerBot filament can withstand up to 15°C higher temperatures, is up 26% more rigid, and up to 12% stronger than modified ABS formulations used in traditional ABS filaments.

MakerBot ABS Precision Filament is available in a wide range of colors - allowing users to select the right color for any job.

ENGINEERED FOR DURABLE AND STRONG 3D PRINTED PARTS

Featuring 2x the impact strength of ABS, MakerBot Tough Precision Model filament is engineered with industrial prototyping and manufacturing aid applications in mind. With tensile strength and flexural strength similar to that of ABS, Tough Precision goes a step further to address issues common with ABS prints – warping and curling. Demonstrating significantly less warping and curling than traditional ABS when printed without a heated build plate, Tough Precision Model filament allows users to print with the confidence that their parts will be accurate, durable, and easily machinable.

MATERIAL DATA

  • Glass Transition Temperature: 60-65°C (140-149°F)
  • Melting Temperature: 150-160°C (302-320°F)
  • Extruder Temperature: 210°C (419°F)

MakerBot PVA Precision Support Material has been extensively-tested for the highest reliability, dimensional accuracy, and superior surface finish.

PRECISION PVA ENSURES FAST AND EFFORTLESS SUPPORT REMOVAL FOR YOUR MOST COMPLEX 3D PRINTS

PVA filament is your best choice when it comes to successfully printing complex 3D printed parts that require supports. Thanks to its low melting temperature of 170°C PVA is the perfect match for prints made from PLA, which has very similar printer settings. The only thing to keep in mind when printing with PVA is that it readily absorbs moisture, so for the best results store MakerBot PVA in a vacuum-sealed container or the dry-sealed material bays of your Method or Method X 3D printer.

PVA PRECISION MATERIAL DATA

  • Glass Transition Temperature: 60°C (140°F)
  • Melting Temperature: 170°C (338°F)
  • Extruder Temperature: 210°C (410°F)
