Panucatt Panucatt SureStepr SD2224 Stepper Driver 4 Pack

The SureStepr SD2224 is a stepper motor driver based on the Trinamic TMC2224. This driver runs both quieter and smoother compared to previous generations. Simple to use and operate using an indexer (DIR/STEP) interface to move the stepper motors, the SD2224 is a direct replacement for Pololu footprint drivers like the SD8825 and features on-chip Vref adjustment.

Leverage the StealthChop2 Configuration Mode for fast, silent printing with precision 1/32nd microstepping

The SD2224 stepper driver controller is based on the Trinamic TMC2224 and continues on the proven Pololu style footprint. This makes the drivers compatible with a wide range of controller boards and also serves as a drop-in replacement for boards like the SD8825. Panucatt continues with the bottom-mounted chip design to allow for easy attachment of a heat sink for high-amperage applications. With a max power output of 2 Amps (with active cooling) and up to 1/32 microstepping, the SD2224 is a great upgrade. Also included is StealthChop2, a configuration mode that makes your 3D printer virtually silent, even at high speeds. StealthChop2 brings faster acceleration than the original and also now also applies to low current periods when the printer is not moving.

Configure the SD2224 to meet your needs, using either StealthChop2 or SpreadCycle modes

The SD2224 utilizes jumper settings on the mainboard to determine microstepping, and the same method is used for switching between the SpreadCycle and StealthChop2 operating modes. SpreadCycle is a very precise, high torque mode that allows for high-speed printing without having to worry about skipped steps. On the other hand, StealthChop2 enables virtually silent operation while maintaining precision printing. StealthChop2 can lead to skipped steps if used at very high speeds, but we have used StealthChop2 up to 60mm/s print speeds with beautiful and silent results. If you are living and operating printers in an apartment or single bedroom, running prints overnight near where people sleep, or simply don't want to hear the traditional sounds of a 3D printer at work, then StealthChop2 is the solution.

Configuring Microstepping and StealthChop2 or SpreadCycle

Microstepping modes are configured using jumpers for each stepper driver, specifically MS1 and MS2:

Jumper 1/4 1/8 1/16 1/32
MS1 OFF ON OFF ON
MS2 OFF OFF ON ON

Choosing between StealthChop2 and SpreadCycle operation is set with the MS3 jumper:

Jumper StealthChop2 SpreadCycle
MS3 OFF ON
