Over the past year, the MatterControl Development Team has been working hard creating a new and improved MatterControl. Loaded with lots of new features and tools to create, slice, and control your 3D printer, MatterControl has more capabilities than ever for newcomers and advanced users alike. While some updates are behind-the-scenes like how the slicer operates, there are some major changes within the interface. Let's dive into some of the biggest things that are brand new to MatterControl!

Made for Makers

MatterControl has an emphasis on customizability, so you can create 3D printed designs just for you, to fit your personal needs. You can make things your own even easier than before, and achieve a higher complexity than other CAD programs often used in grade schools. It's even more approachable than other engineering solutions for 3D modeling.

Design Tools

MatterControl now incorporates the ability to 3D model with a complete set of modeling primitives that you can use to build anything you can imagine. Build up your creative designs by combining these shapes into something more. You can even use a primitive to create your own customized supports! The possibilities are endless. Read more about the Design Tools feature here, and remember to post your creations on your favorite social media pages with the #MatterControl tag!

Design Apps

MatterControl is now empowered with Design Apps: sophisticated customizable designs that allow you to make designs your own. From instantly putting your name on a business card holder to creating a custom light switch with your favorite superhero logo, Design Apps make the process fast, fun, and easy for every Maker.

Customizable Supports

Whether you want auto-generated supports or only specific parts of your model is your choice. Simply drag in a primitive, mark it as support, and MatterControl will treat it as supports for your model. This means you can support internal structures without supporting the entire model.

Integrated Dual Extrusion

With a multiple extruder printer, you can pick and choose which extruder will print which part. You can create the model in MatterControl, subtract and replace, and select materials, or you can import your own models and print in multiple materials just as easily.

With multiple extrusion 3D models, simply select all your parts, align them to their origin, and select which extruder should print it.

Help Wizards

From filament changing to bed leveling, MatterControl now has step-by-step guides incorporated right into the workflow.

How-Tos, Helpful Techniques, and Use Case Articles

On the Home page, you can now find numerous articles to help you succeed with different materials or provide valuable tips and techniques to better ensure a successful print.

Help Guides, Use Case articles, or even links to purchasing more filament can all be found on the MatterControl home screen

Cloud Library

Upload 3D models to your personal Cloud library and access them anywhere. Simply log in, upload, and download using the MatterControl dashboard online or through the MatterControl application.

Print Recovery

There's nothing worse than flipping the wrong switch or having a power outage that ruins your print. When printing directly from MatterControl, the progress of your print will be remembered and you can pick up right where you left off.

Software Bed Leveling

Many printers come with an automatic bed leveling sensor, but there are still some that don't, leaving you to struggle with a tilted build plate. With MatterControl's easy-to-use software leveling, you can manually level just the same as an automatic sensor would, compensating and correcting your first layer to be completely level with the bed.

64-bit Processing.

MatterControl now comes in a 64-bit version, which means if you have a 64-bit computer, MatterControl can handle larger, more complicated models, and slice faster than ever!
