Ultimaker S3 Tech Breakdown

Ultimaker is well-known in the industry for creating robust, capable, and beautiful 3D printers - from the initial Ultimaker Original to the Ultimaker S5 - and now the Ultimaker S3. Utilizing features developed for the Ultimaker S5, the Ultimaker S3 brings a carefully crafted update to the Ultimaker 3. Where the Ultimaker S5 is a 3D printer fit for the fabrication lab, the smaller yet fully capable Ultimaker S3 can easily fit on the desk of any engineer.

Let's break it down-

Solid Construction

The new rigid frame and print bed platform means small vibrations are reduced, which mitigates “ringing” artifacts on 3D prints and improves overall print quality. A new glass door with a magnetic latch, provides a more consistent build chamber temperature by keeping hot air in and cold air out. This helps prevent warping or layer separation when 3D printing with advanced or high-temperature materials. With some tweaks to the internal design, both nozzles can now reach the entire build area, maintaining a high build-volume-to-printer-size ratio.

Improved Electronic Components

For a seamless and easy-to-understand user experience, the Ultimaker S3 features a smart-phone like,  responsive touch screen with full-color, helpful wizards to guide you through every process. To keep the machine running precisely, reliably, and quietly, the Ultimaker S3 features stepper drivers that provide quiet performance, and precise motion to consistently produce high-quality 3D prints. The advanced auto bed leveling makes setup easy, calibrating the printer to create the perfect first layer every time. It is also worth mentioning that the Ultimaker S3 has an internal power supply, making it a truly compact manufacturing device.

User interfaces can be the difference between a great machine and a frustrating tool, with the Ultimaker S3 falling into the former category.

24/7 Extrusion

Hardened steel feeder wheels enable abrasion resistant 3D printing with a variety of engineering-grade materials. Glass or carbon fiber-filled composites, like NylonG and NylonX,  can now be 3D printed without the concern of wearing down a crucial component, as long as it is also paired with the abrasives-ready Ultimaker CC Print Core, of course. To remove any worry of running out of filament while printing unattended, both extruders feature flow sensors to actively check that filament has not run out or experienced a clog, - a welcome addition to safeguard those long print jobs. With the help of the Ultimaker Cloud and the internally mounted camera, you can remotely start, monitor, and stop print jobs from anywhere.

Using small sensors that detect the rotating of a bearing, the Ultimaker S3 can easily identify a clog or runout before it affects a print job.

With all this combined, the Ultimaker S3 produces beautiful, sturdy 3D prints, making Ultimaker an excellent choice in starting a 3D printing production line, or for a line of 3D printers you can constantly rely on. To learn more and to order yours today, check out the Ultimaker S3 here.
