Revopoint Revopoint Revo Design Pro (Permanent)

Revo Design is scan-to-CAD software that turns 3D scan data into editable CAD models. Import an STL, OBJ, or PLY mesh from any scanner, clean it up, rebuild the part as surfaces and features, and export STEP, IGES, or Parasolid to the CAD or CAM software you already use. Automatic surfacing handles organic shapes in a click, and live deviation display shows how closely your model tracks the original scan.

  • Turn scan meshes into editable CAD for reverse engineering and redesign
  • Mesh cleanup and alignment: hole fill, outlier removal, smoothing, align to WCS
  • Cross sections, 2D and 3D sketching, surfacing, and fitted primitives
  • Automatic surfacing for organic shapes, with real-time deviation against the scan
  • Exports STEP, IGES, Parasolid, and STL; Revo Design Pro adds 40+ advanced tools and CAD import

From Scan Mesh to Editable CAD

A 3D scan gives you an accurate mesh, but a mesh is not a CAD model. You cannot change a diameter, add a mounting boss, or hand it to a machinist as a STEP file. Revo Design closes that gap. Import your scan, clean up the mesh, rebuild the geometry as real surfaces and features, then export STEP, IGES, or Parasolid into whatever CAD or CAM software you already use.

It reads STL, OBJ, and PLY meshes, so it works with scans from Revopoint scanners and from any other scanner that exports those formats. Automatic surfacing converts organic shapes to CAD in a click, and live deviation display shows how closely your new geometry tracks the original scan while you work.

How It Works

  1. Import. Bring in scan data as an STL, OBJ, or PLY mesh, or jump straight from Revo Scan.
  2. Clean. Fill holes, remove outliers, smooth the mesh, then align it to a coordinate system.
  3. Rebuild. Reconstruct the part with cross sections, 2D and 3D sketching, extrude and revolve, fit surface, and fitted primitives.
  4. Export. Send finished geometry to your CAD or CAM software as STEP, IGES, Parasolid, or STL.

Clean the Mesh Before You Model

Raw scans arrive with holes, stray points, and more polygons than you need. Revo Design fixes that first, so you are modeling against clean reference geometry instead of fighting scan noise. Alignment tools put the part on a sensible coordinate system, which matters when the finished model has to line up with existing CAD.

  • Mesh hole fill, outlier removal, and de-feature
  • Polygon reduction, smoothing, repolygonize, and clipping box
  • Align to WCS, interactive alignment, and align by N points
  • Global fine alignment across multiple meshes

Rebuild Real Geometry

Cut cross sections through the scan, sketch on them, and fit 2D entities to the captured profile, then extrude or revolve those sketches into surfaces. Fit primitives such as planes, cylinders, cones, and spheres directly to scanned features, and use a symmetry plane to recover the part's original intent rather than its as-scanned imperfections.

  • Cross sections and multiple cross sections with 2D sketching
  • Fit 2D entities to scan profiles
  • Extrude and revolve surfaces, trim surfaces, fit surface
  • Primitives: plane, cylinder, cone, sphere, and symmetry plane
  • 3D sketching and manual freeform modeling

Automatic Surfacing and Live Accuracy Checks

Organic shapes that would take hours to rebuild by hand can be converted to CAD surfaces in a click. As you model, scan-to-CAD compare shows real-time deviation between your curves and the reference mesh, so you know whether the model is faithful to the scanned part before you export it, not after someone machines it.

  • Automatic surfacing for organic shapes
  • Basic auto freeform surfacing
  • Scan-to-CAD compare while you work
  • Real-time deviation of 3D curves against the reference mesh

Exports Into the CAD You Already Run

Finished models leave as STEP, IGES, or Parasolid, the formats every mainstream CAD and CAM package reads, so the scan-to-CAD step fits into your existing process instead of replacing it. Revo Design Pro also imports STEP and IGES, which lets you bring in existing CAD and work against both the scan and the original model in one place.

  • Export STEP, IGES, Parasolid, and STL
  • Pro also imports STEP and IGES
  • Quick link from Revo Scan 6 and Revo Metro
  • Works with mesh data from non-Revopoint scanners

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Revopoint scanner?
No. Revo Design imports STL, OBJ, and PLY meshes from any 3D scanner. Revopoint scanners add a quick link from Revo Scan 6 and Revo Metro so you can move from scan to CAD without exporting files by hand.

What is the difference between Revo Design and Revo Design Pro?
Both include mesh cleanup, sketching, surfacing, and automatic surfacing. Pro adds more than 40 advanced tools, including solid modeling, Booleans, patterns, fillets and chamfers, Class A surfacing, automatic mesh segmentation, and CAD import of STEP and IGES files.

Does it need an internet connection?
An internet connection is used for activation, and Revopoint recommends staying online so the software can update automatically. Modeling work itself does not require a constant connection.

What formats can I export?
STEP, IGES, Parasolid, and STL, which covers mainstream CAD and CAM packages along with 3D printing.

What computer do I need?
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an Intel i5 or equivalent processor, 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD graphics card.
