Industrial Accuracy, Without the Industrial Price
The Revopoint MetroY is a wireless handheld blue laser 3D scanner built for small to medium workpieces. Multi-line blue lasers capture dense point clouds at up to 0.02 mm single-frame accuracy, and because blue laser light handles difficult surfaces well, you can scan shiny, black, and reflective parts without coating them in scanning spray first.
It covers objects from 10 x 10 x 10 mm up to 1 x 1 x 1 m, which puts machined parts, castings, brackets, molds, and automotive components all within range. Wi-Fi 6 keeps the scanner untethered from your workstation, and three laser modes let you switch between fast area coverage, fine detail, and deep holes without changing hardware.
The MetroY Pro adds full-field blue structured light for marker-free scanning, color texture capture, and a dual-axis turntable for automated desktop scanning.

Scan Modes
Different geometry needs different light. The MetroY switches modes in software, so one scanner handles broad surfaces, fine detail, and features other scanners cannot reach.
| Mode | What it does | Best for | Available on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross Lines (34 lines) | Fast area coverage at up to 1,500,000 points per second | General scanning and larger surfaces | MetroY and Pro |
| Parallel Lines (15 lines) | Slower passes that resolve fine surface detail | Edges, engravings, and tight features | MetroY and Pro |
| Single Line | One focused laser line that reaches into recesses | Deep holes, crevices, grills, and internal geometry | MetroY and Pro |
| Full-Field Structured Light (62 lines) | Marker-free scanning at up to 7,000,000 points per second | Organic shapes and surfaces with natural features | MetroY Pro |
| Auto Turntable | One-click automated scanning on the dual-axis turntable, with color texture capture | Small parts, repeat scans, and models that need color | MetroY Pro |
Laser modes track using markers. Structured light mode on the Pro also tracks surface features, which reduces how often you need markers.
Scan Shiny and Black Parts, No Spray
Machined aluminum, black plastic, and polished steel defeat many scanners, and the usual fix is a coat of developer spray that you then have to clean off, adding time and a layer of thickness to every measurement. Blue laser light handles those surfaces directly, so most parts go straight from the bench to the scan.
- Scan reflective, dark, and matte surfaces without pretreatment
- No spray residue to clean off finished parts
- Nothing added between the laser and the true surface
- 12 blue LED fill lights support consistent capture
Accuracy You Can Inspect With
Volumetric accuracy of 0.02 + 0.04 mm x L means deviation stays predictable as parts get larger, and fused point distance down to 0.05 mm keeps captured detail dense enough for reverse engineering. Onboard temperature sensors monitor the scanner during long sessions so thermal drift does not quietly creep into your data.
- 0.02 mm single-frame accuracy, 0.01 mm single-frame precision
- Volumetric accuracy of 0.02 + 0.04 mm x L (m)
- Fused point distance up to 0.05 mm
- Real-time temperature monitoring during scanning
Wireless, and Light Enough to Carry
Wi-Fi 6 connects the scanner to your workstation without a cable running back to the PC, so you can walk around a part on a bench or a fixture instead of working around a tether. At 447 g the scanner is comfortable to hold through a long session, and it runs from the included adapter or a USB power bank when you need to work away from an outlet.
- Wi-Fi 6 or USB-C connection
- 447 g handheld body
- Runs from the power adapter or a 12V power bank
- Stream scans to a phone or tablet with Revo Mirror
From Scan to Part
Revo Metro is included and handles capture, editing, merging, and mesh processing, exporting to PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC, 3MF, GLTF, and FBX. From there, add Revopoint's design and measurement software or Geomagic Design X Go to turn scans into CAD models or inspection reports. Note that this is a demanding workload: plan on an RTX 3060 or better and at least 32 GB of RAM.
- Revo Metro scanning and processing software included
- Exports to the mesh and point cloud formats your CAD tools expect
- Optional scan-to-CAD and metrology software, listed below
- Windows 10 and 11, with macOS support coming

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to spray parts before scanning?
Usually not. Blue laser light captures shiny, black, and reflective surfaces that normally require developer spray, which saves prep and cleanup time and keeps spray thickness out of your measurements.
Do I have to use markers?
Yes for the laser modes, which track using markers. Place them in an irregular pattern with at least five visible at all times, and put them on the part or a flat surface around it rather than on soft pads or cloth. The Pro's structured light mode also tracks surface features, so many parts scan marker-free.
Can it capture color?
Color texture capture is available on the MetroY Pro in auto turntable mode. The standard MetroY captures geometry only.
What size parts does it handle?
From 10 x 10 x 10 mm up to about 1 x 1 x 1 m, at a working distance of 200 to 400 mm.
What computer do I need?
This is a demanding workload. Revopoint lists a minimum of an Intel i7 13th Gen or AMD Ryzen 7 5800, 32 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX 3060 with 8 GB, and recommends an i9 or better with 64 GB of RAM and an RTX 4060 or better. Underpowered machines produce laggy previews and slow processing.
Does it have a battery?
No. The MetroY runs on DC 12V 3A from the included power adapter, or from a USB power bank when you are working away from an outlet.
Can I scan people or faces?
Revopoint does not recommend scanning faces with these scanners because of laser exposure. The MetroY is a Class 1 laser and the MetroY Pro is Class 2M. For people and organic subjects, look at Revopoint's structured light scanners instead.
Is it a certified metrology instrument?
The MetroY delivers metrology-grade accuracy for inspection and reverse engineering, but it is not a substitute for a certified CMM in regulated workflows that require traceability.
