FAQ

Can I use the air compressor separately?

No, the air compressor and air dryer must be used together. Otherwise, compressed air containing moisture, oil, and dust will enter the welding gun and air lines, which will not only degrade cutting performance but also damage the equipment.

Can I use the xTool air dryer with my own air compressor?

Yes, but the air compressor should meet strict requirements:

  • For the best cutting results, the xTool air dryer should be used with an air compressor rated at over 145 PSI (1.0 MPa) and an airflow of over 7 CFM @ 87 PSI (200 L/min @ 0.6 MPa) when using the xTool SaveGas nozzle.
  • The airflow entering the air dryer should be lower than 14.1 CFM (400 L/min), the air pressure should be lower than 181 PSI (1.25 MPa), and the air temperature should be lower than 122℉ (50℃). Otherwise, it will cutting effect will not be satisfactory, and will cause damage to the air dryer.

What metals can be cut using the xTool's air compressor and refrigerated dryer?

The maximum air pressure output of the xTool air compressor is 1.0MPa, stably providing over 0.6MPa during cutting.

  • When paired with the xTool SaveGas Nozzle, it can cut up to 4mm stainless steel, 4mm aluminum, 3mm brass, 1mm carbon steel (ordinary nozzle), and 1mm galvanized steel (ordinary nozzle) with no burrs.
  • For thicker stainless steel, it is recommended to use nitrogen, argon, or an air compressor with a pressure above 1.2MPa.
  • For thicker carbon steel, oxygen cutting is advised.

How do the xTool air compressor and air dryer differ from other brands?

  • The xTool air compressor is both compact and powerful, featuring a 5.2 HP motor that delivers up to 1.0 MPa of pressure and 14.1 CFM of airflow, making it specifically designed for metal cutting applications.
  • The xTool air dryer features a unique heat exchange module that rapidly cools compressed air, along with a three-stage precision filtration system that removes 99.999% of oil and dust.

In contrast to other dryers that only offer one or two filtration stages, xTool's advanced filtration system significantly enhances efficiency, ensuring a longer lifespan and superior cutting results.

How does an air compressor differ from nitrogen or argon gas?

  • Lower Cost: Nitrogen and argon cylinders can be quite expensive. For instance, a 40L nitrogen cylinder at 1.2 MPa lasts only about 30 minutes, which means frequent replacements are necessary. In contrast, an air compressor utilizes free ambient air and only requires electricity, resulting in significant annual savings.
  • Better Performance for Stainless Steel: When cutting thicker stainless steel at the same settings, compressed air produces burr-free cuts at lower pressures. However, using compressed air, which contains oxygen, can lead to oxidation, resulting in darkened cut surfaces. Nitrogen, on the other hand, ensures oxidation-free cuts with bright white finishes.
  • Important Note: The xTool SaveGas Nozzle may cause surface scratches and is not suitable for cutting intricate patterns smaller than 2.5 mm. If high cutting quality and precise patterns are necessary, it is advisable to use standard nozzles and maintain a pressure above 1.2 MPa (whether using compressed air or nitrogen/argon).
