Maker Response Hub - Response #18 Instructions
This is the Maker Response Hub Instruction Page for Response #18 - a targeted response effort in partnership with CRASH Space LA - if you’re here, that means you have committed to fulfilling this response.
Thank you for dedicating your time, materials, and resources to help fulfill hospitals' requests for critically needed PPE. Your work for the Maker Response Hub is greatly appreciated. You can further help the Hub’s efforts grow by sharing your prints on social media. Use #MakerResponseHub and #Response18 and tag @matterhackers and @crashspacela to show the great work you are doing and to encourage more people to be part of the solution.
Step 1: Submit Your Response Commitment Form
If you have not already done so, you must fill out the Maker Response Hub Commitment Form. This is a crucial step in participation for Response #18 - MatterHackers has been working closely with CRASH Space LA and Los Angeles area hospitals to fulfill their PPE needs - we have exact numbers of equipment to provide for each hospital’s requests. Your commitment helps us ensure that each hospital’s PPE needs are met in a timely manner.
By submitting this form, you are committing to printing and shipping the minimum requested number of parts for this specific Response.

Step 2: Download the Budmen Face Shield Model
Once you have submitted the Response Commitment Form, download our approved face shield model and start printing the number of parts you have committed to. CRASH Space has been coordinating with design evaluation teams inside Keck Medicine of USC and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to ensure the selected design meets their requirements and infectious disease protocols. Previously delivered batches of shields from the CRASH community have already been put to use by frontline medical workers.
Step 3: Prep Your Printing Station
In order to keep yourself, our volunteers, and healthcare professionals safe, it is important to be as clean as possible. Prep your printing station with cleaning supplies and wear gloves when handling anything that you are planning to ship.
Step 4: Start Printing Your Response Number Requested Parts
Once your station is prepped, begin printing the quantity that you are committing to based on your Response Number request. Your parts should be printed in PETG, RYNO, PLA, or Tough PLA 3D printing filament. Here are some helpful articles to help you succeed:

Slice Settings to be aware of:
Please ensure the part has solid perimeters (infinite perimeters, essentially) to ensure the strength of the parts when they are completed.
Step 5: Clean Your Parts
Clean your parts as best as possible. We recommend wiping them down with isopropyl alcohol - be sure to wear gloves when handling all parts.
Step 6: Package Your Parts
Package and seal all your parts in a ziplock plastic bag. Label each bag with the date that it was sealed and by the type of material that you used to print the models. This will ensure that the parts are kept as clean and safe as possible, and will also help our volunteers organize by material.
Write on the ziplock bag:
- The type of material that you used
- The date that the bag was sealed
Step 7: Register your donation with CRASH Space LA
When you have 20 printed parts, take a clear photo of your 20 or more parts packaged for delivery and fill out the CRASH Space inventory form located here.
Step 8: Deliver your prints to CRASH Space
Prints can be mailed or dropped off during open collection times (4-6PM on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays) at:
CRASH COVID c/o
Covenant Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles
6323 W 80th St
