For years, Formlabs has set the standard for professional resin 3D printing. Engineers, product designers, dental labs, and jewelers rely on Form 4 every day. Now Formlabs is bringing that same experience to a whole new group of makers.

The Formlabs Form Studio 1 is the company's most accessible SLA printer ever, starting at $699. It delivers the reliability and part quality Formlabs is known for in a compact, approachable package designed for creators, hobbyists, educators, and small businesses. With automatic resin handling, easy material swaps, and an optional purpose-built wash, cure, and air filtration setup, Form Studio 1 makes resin printing safe, simple, and mess-free from start to finish.

Time-lapse of Form Studio 1 printing a part as the time remaining counts down

Why Form Studio 1 Stands Out

Blazing Fast

Most parts finish in under two hours, with print speeds up to 130 mm/h on Alpha Fast Resin. Go from idea to finished part in a single afternoon.

Amazing Parts

A 35 µm pixel, pretuned anti-aliasing, and resins tuned specifically to the light engine deliver sharp edges, crisp details, and smooth surfaces straight off the printer.

Automatic, Mess-Free Alpha Resin Handling

Integrated, hands-free dispensing keeps the resin tank filled automatically, and easy material swaps take less than a minute. No pouring, no drips, and no mess.

Open Platform

Open Material Mode comes included, so you can print in any 405 nm resin with no license fee and no activation step. Third-party resins are poured by hand and print in the Resin Tank Pro.

Reliable by Design

Intelligent control systems monitor resin temperature, resin level, print forces, and leveling on every job, using the same sensors as Form 4 apart from its resin mixer. The proven Low Force Display print engine and a passive release texture reduce peel forces, which are a common cause of failed prints and tank wear on other resin printers.

Taller Prints, Smaller Footprint

Form Studio 1 offers a 200 x 125 x 235 mm build volume. That's taller than Form 4 (235 mm vs. 210 mm) in a more compact machine that fits comfortably on a desk or workbench.

Connected and Flexible

Connect over dual-band Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. A built-in 1080p camera, touchscreen, and the Formlabs mobile app let you monitor prints remotely, or run the printer fully offline if you prefer.

The Form Studio 1 Ecosystem

Form Studio 1 is the center of a complete system. The printer, post-processing, materials, and air filtration are designed to work together, so you get consistent results without assembling a workflow from mismatched parts.

Form Studio Wash+Cure with its wash basket, wash bucket, and curing chamber

Form Studio Wash+Cure

One compact unit handles both post-processing steps.

  • Washing: A removable basin holds parts on the build platform or in the internal basket. An impeller agitates the solvent to clean every surface, then you lift the basket so parts come out of the solvent to air dry without over-soaking.
  • Curing: A stowable turntable drops into the chamber and rotates parts under 405 nm light for even exposure. Curing completes the reaction started during printing and boosts strength, toughness, and heat resistance.
  • Solvent compatibility: Works with IPA, TPM, and Resin Washing Solution.

Alpha Resins

A new family of resins built specifically for Form Studio 1 and its light engine.

  • Six materials: Alpha Grey, White, Black, Clear, Fast, and Model
  • Industry-first safety certification: Printed on Form Studio 1 with the VOC Extractor on fan speed 2, Alpha Resins are the first and only 3D printing resins with UL GREENGUARD Gold certification for low chemical emissions. GREENGUARD Gold is the same standard used for products in schools, healthcare settings, and homes.
  • Exceptional clarity: Alpha Clear is more optically transparent than Formlabs Clear V5.
  • Compatibility: Alpha Resins run only on Form Studio 1. They are not compatible with Form 4/4B or Form 4L/4BL.

VOC Extractor

Cleaner air for any indoor workspace.

  • Carbon filtration: Air passes through a pre-filter, then two activated carbon filters. Each filter lasts roughly 330 hours of print time and replaces in seconds.
  • Three flow settings: 7, 12, and 19 CFM. Use the middle setting (12 CFM) with Alpha Resins; it's the setting used for UL GREENGUARD testing.
  • Only needed while printing, and it vents clean air out of the unit.
  • Also compatible with Form 4.

Build Your Form Studio 1 Setup

Form Studio 1 workflow: one-click setup in PreForm, automatic resin dispensing, washing, and UV curing in Form Studio Wash+Cure

From File to Finished Part

The entire Form Studio 1 workflow is designed to be simple, even if you've never printed with resin before.

  1. Prepare: Import your STL, OBJ, or 3MF file into free PreForm software. Supports are generated automatically and are designed for light-touch removal.
  2. Print: Send the job over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB. Form Studio 1 automatically heats and dispenses resin and monitors every layer.
  3. Wash: Move the build platform straight into Form Studio Wash+Cure. Parts are cleaned, then you lift them out of the solvent to dry.
  4. Cure: Drop in the turntable and cure parts under 405 nm light for final strength and durability.

When a print finishes, the printer's screen even displays the recommended wash and cure times for Form Studio Wash+Cure.

Materials and Open Material Mode

Form Studio 1 launches with nine supported Formlabs materials and PreForm print settings:

Material Layer Heights
Alpha Grey, White, Black, and Clear 100 and 50 microns
Alpha Model 50 and 30 microns
Alpha Fast 150 and 250 microns
Tough 1500 V2 100 microns
Flexible 80A V2 100 microns
True Cast 50 and 30 microns

Left: lifting a resin tank out of Form Studio 1 to swap materials. Right: resin bottles for Open Material Mode

Two resin tanks for different needs:

  • Form Studio 1 Resin Tank: Uses a film engineered for Alpha Resins, delivering fast printing and an improved supported surface finish. It's also ideal for True Cast, which can print fine filigree with fewer supports and smaller touchpoints than on Form 4.
  • Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro: Required for Tough 1500 V2 and third-party resins, since some of their ingredients aren't compatible with the standard tank's film.

Both tanks are designed to last 75,000+ layers with Formlabs materials when properly maintained. Browse our full selection of Formlabs resins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order Form Studio 1 now?

Yes. Form Studio 1 is available to order now at MatterHackers, including the limited Founders Edition colors through November 30 or while supplies last.

Can I use third-party resins?

Yes. Open Material Mode is included at no cost, so you can print with any 405 nm resin. Third-party resins and Tough 1500 V2 require the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro.

Do I need the VOC Extractor?

It's strongly recommended, especially in enclosed spaces. All resins release VOCs, and the UL GREENGUARD Gold certification for Alpha Resins applies only when they're printed on Form Studio 1 with the VOC Extractor on fan speed 2. Gloves are still recommended when handling liquid resin.

Can I use Alpha Resins on my Form 4?

No. Alpha Resins were developed specifically for Form Studio 1 and aren't compatible with Form 4 or Form 4L.

I already own Form Wash and Form Cure. Can I use them?

Yes. Form Wash and Form Cure remain the most capable post-processing option, and Form Cure runs at higher power with added heat, so it cures three to five times faster than Form Studio Wash+Cure. Arm adapters for Form Wash V2 are coming, so you can wash parts right on the Form Studio 1 build platform, and Alpha Resin cure profiles for Form Cure are coming in a firmware update through PreForm.

Can I print without connecting to the internet?

Yes. Form Studio 1 runs fully offline, and firmware can be updated through PreForm over USB. Connecting to a Formlabs account unlocks remote monitoring and the mobile app.
