About MakerBot 3D Printers

Makerbot 3D Printers

Bring industrial-grade 3D printer to your desktop with Makerbot's 3D printers. The Method series has all the features you'd expect of 3D printers of this caliber: an actively heated build chamber, lifting and alternating dual nozzles, and even a flexible and magnetic removeable build plate for rapid print removal. Those looking to expand their options should consider the Experimental Extruder to allow for third-party engineering materials or clean the build chambers air with the Clean Air System with built-in HEPA filters.

What Materials Can Makerbot 3D Printers Print?

Makerbot 3D printers can print nearly every material available for desktop 3D printing. Here are some of them:

  • PLA and Tough PLA
  • ABS and ASA
  • PETG and CPE
  • Nylon
  • Ultrafuse 316L and 17-4 PH
  • PVA and Soluble Supports
  • PC-ABS
  • Experimental Materials (with Experimental Extruder)

How Much Do Makerbot 3D Printers Cost?

Does the Makerbot Method have a heated bed?

The Makerbot Method and MethodX have actively heated build chambers which eliminates the need for a heated build plate. If temperature intense materials like ABS or PC are materials you are interested in, you will be able to reach higher build chamber temperatures with the MethodX.

What file type does the Makerbot Series use?

Much like most other 3D printers, Makerbot 3D printers also import STLs and OBJs into the Makerbot slicing program. Depending on which generation Makerbot you are working with, Gcode, .makerbot, X3G, and S3G are the file types you will need to generate for your 3D printers to create objects.

Can I use Cura with a Makerbot?

While Cura was developed to be used on hundreds of 3D printer models and even DIY 3D printers, Makerbot uses a different file type to transfer the 3D printing instructions and only Makerbot Print or Makerbot Cloudprint can be used for their most recent machines.

Can the Makerbot Sketch use any filament?

The Makerbot Sketch is limited to only using PLA or Tough PLA materials for 3D printing. While it is strongly recommended to utilize only the Makerbot materials formulated specifically for the Sketch, it is possible to use third-party PLA filaments, but any damage or troubleshooting may not be covered under warranty.
