How it works

Wash, rinse, dry, cure

PRO Resin Wash is a TPM-based cleaner that drops into the same workflow as IPA. One step is new: a quick water rinse after the wash. In return you get a bath that doesn't stink up the room, doesn't evaporate away and keeps cleaning far longer.

Resin print submerged in PRO Resin Wash

1. Wash

Fill your wash station or bucket with PRO Resin Wash and wash your parts the way you would in IPA, with the same agitation and the same times.

  • Some resins soak up TPM more slowly. If a part still feels slick or shows resin in corners, give it a longer wash.
  • Gloves on, and keep the container closed between uses.
Same machines as IPA. Use it in a Formlabs Form Wash, Form Wash L or Finish Kit buckets, or in any other wash station or tub. Formlabs rates TPM compatible with all of its resins in the Form Wash.
Rinsing a washed resin print in water

2. Rinse in water

This is the step that's new if you're coming from IPA. TPM doesn't evaporate off the part the way alcohol does, so rinse it away in a container of plain water until the slick feeling is gone.

  • A few drops of dish soap (under a teaspoon) helps the rinse.
  • A cloudy look coming out of the rinse is normal and clears as the part dries.
  • Change the rinse water when it stops cleaning: it fills up with TPM over time.
Water is the rinse, not the wash. It only removes the cleaner. The resin has already come off in step 1.
Clean resin print drying

3. Dry completely

Let the part drip dry, then air dry until there's no water or cleaner left on it, inside holes and cavities included.

  • A slightly waxy feel until it's fully dry is normal. Some resins keep it until they're cured.
  • Compressed air speeds things up on detailed parts.
Takes a little longer than IPA, which flashes off in minutes. Don't skip it: wet parts cure badly.

4. Cure

Post-cure with your resin's normal time and temperature, in a Form Cure or any UV curing station. Nothing changes here.

  • Only cure fully dry parts. Leftover cleaner evaporates inside a closed cure chamber and can cloud its reflective walls.

5. Reuse it, then replace it

TPM holds roughly three times as much resin as IPA before it stops cleaning, and it doesn't evaporate out of an open tank, so one fill goes much further.

  • Time to replace: a thin film of resin stays on parts after washing.
  • Checking with a hydrometer? Replace it above a specific gravity of 1.000. The hydrometer that comes with the Form Wash doesn't read this range; use one that reads 0.962–1.000.
  • Never pour it down the sink. Dispose of used cleaner according to local rules.
